University of Valencia) and Ana Bonmatí (University Culture) Organized by: European School of Thought Lluís Vives of the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and Society of the University of ValenciaThe Directive (EU) 2024 /1385 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of May 14, 2024, on the fight against violence against women and domestic violence, is the first European text that establishes common lines for all states with the purpose of preventing and penalize behaviors that generate gender violence. With it, it is intended to comply with international mandates to eliminate any kind of discrimination based on gender. The rule also contains specific provisions for the prevention and support of victims and sanctions. Professor Paz Lloria emphasizes that "the provisions in the field of so-called cyberviolence or gender-based digital violence are particularly interesting, a new mode of aggression against women that requires changes in the criminal regulations of our legal system, which must be linked to the recent cases of crimes committed through technologies, not only in relation to the dissemination of intimate images but also with the improper use of artificial intelligence. This will force changes in the Penal Code to adapt it to the new European requirements." Member countries will have three years to implement the guidelines.
