The research group 'Immunology of Fungal Infections' of the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (Biotecmed) of the University of Valencia has published a new study in which they have discovered new molecular mechanisms responsible for establishing an immune memory in hematopoietic stem cells (stem cells of the blood and the immune system). In the study they have described how the GM-CSF molecule can modify the immune response and applied in certain drugs could be used to develop new immunotherapies to combat numerous diseases.
