Sustainable Universe Chap.07_T5 What do we know about medicinal botany?
One of the most interesting branches of botany investigates the medicinal uses of plants. Since ancient times we have known that, beyond their nutritional function, plants can have different applications for health. They can be diuretic, astringent, relaxing or digestive, among many other examples. Botany is a science in continuous evolution and expansion. Taxol, aspirin or morphine are some of the best known medicines that are derived from plants. Are there properties of plants to discover? Absolutely yes. Therefore, scientific knowledge will be key, but also care and respect for biodiversity, which is the responsibility of citizens.
