The discovery in the universe of some kind of life analogous to that inhabited on Earth is intrinsically linked to the discovery of habitable planets for the Human Being. It is as important to locate them as they are to be within walking distance. If reaching the moon in the twentieth century was the first major exploratory goal of space travel, in recent decades interest has been focused on Mars, the planet that was originally more like Earth. It does not seem likely that a future human being will be forced to leave Earth to inhabit a new planet that, for now, seems too far away.
